Ron Galella documentary

Did anyone see this. Quite an interesting insight into a paprazzi's life - not just any old pap either, the first pap! interesting on his outlook and manner compared to the modern press scrum down - some celebs seem to quite like him too.

Enjoy!
Andy

Never seen it but have favourited it for later on. I don't think I could do that sort of photography, following people about and stalking them. But saying that I would photograph a celeb if the opportunity came my way and especially if it was a newsworthy photo opportunity.

Passed on this one but I did watch this :

http://vimeo.com/9141202

on Duffy... if you missed it, it's a great watch : )

Duffy together with David Bailey and Terence Donovan is recognized as one of the innovators of “documentary" fashion photography, a style which revolutionized fashion imagery and furthermore the fashion industry. So influential were their images that in 1962 the Sunday Times dubbed Duffy, Bailey & Donovan the “Terrible Trio” and Norman Parkinson further added to their notoriety by naming them "The Black Trinity". Together they dominated the London photographic scene, constantly pushing each other to new heights. Even socially they would spend many hours together talking, living and breathing photography.

Thanks for posting that link I am just looking at it now, Jim. I've never heard of him before, just David Bailey.

To answer Andy's question - yes, and excellent documentary it was too. I think photographers have been forced into paparazzi style photography because the PR men have prevented stars from having their pictures taken unless huge sack loads of money have passed hands first, or at least control on what is revealed in the press is firmly in their hands. This has put a division between star and public, and star and photographer, and is why paparazzi images are now fetching big bucks - because the general public like to get in on the gossip. It's human nature. If the PR men were to free up their hold then the paparizzi style would die a death.
