So many choices out there and I really don't know what I'm looking for, really confusing haha
Right, well what you've basically got there are a load of versions of the same camera. If you want the short answer: buy the FZ100.

The longer answer (and explanation) is:

The FZ100 and FZ45 are both current models and the only real differences are inside. Basically the FZ100 has a better type of sensor and a much higher resolution LCD screen - both of which are worth paying the extra money for.

The FZ38 and FZ28 are older, discontinued models. Don't even bother looking for them, if you do find them, they're old and out dated.

The Samsung has a lot going for it on paper. Sadly, it's not as flexible as the Panasonics and it's generally not as good.

Yeah, I ought to really. It's been ages but with my entire personal life being turned upside down a couple of months ago and now going through the process of trying to sell my old house, finding somewhere to live and keeping my PhD on track I'm struggling to find the time at the moment.

Hopefully I'll have somewhere to live soon and that will, with any luck, give me the spare time to get out with my camera again.
