Well done on your win Mr C and after a lot of deliberating of so many great entries, you finally got my vote this week.
And thanks to Andy for choosing a subject that has inspired such a good turn out of entries on the weekend.

Thanks for the "up" review Paul and i agree totally with your comments and i was not happy with my entry, but decided to enter it anyway

My humble opinion on my above and below are:
AboveViaduct
I did like this image Mark and very nearly got my vote as I felt it was executed very well and fit the theme very well.
BelowFrom Flanders to Afghanistan
Although a very poignant subject Paul for the reasons of the actual weekend it was taken! it did not fit the brief enough for me unfortunately. I can see your thinking with the slight DOF going off to the top right with the hint of perspective from the angle of your shot, but a bonus point for getting an entry in from an image you did not even take specifically for the comp

Above – Silversnapper1 – Penarth Pier. Certainly conveys distance – must be a long pier I'm not too sure this has a straight horizon and it looks to me like the sky is blown? I'm not too keen on the sepia. I can see why the lead in is the horizontal of two benches, but I'm wondering if it might have given a stronger foreground if the shot had been taken from just beyond a set of benches giving a strong vertical foreground of the cast bench ends.

Below – Oggalily – Swing Kid. - Where would you be without your children? Racking up the ISO and using the flash to allow the smaller aperture was exactly the right thing to do here to catch everything in focus. The wide(ish) angle works for the impression of distance, although this is more of an action shot for me. Nice two for the price of one shot

Mark – Yongnuo RF602. Well built, usually reliable (check out Flickr's Strobist group, loads of people use them) although I have had one transmitter completely give up the ghost. But a £8 to replace it I am not crying. The joy of the RF602 is that is both a flash trigger and a camera remote (with the right lead). The Pentax and Canon versions are identical. The system is 16 channel.

Howard, many thanks for the critique. More thoughts to take with me next time I go.

I forgot to thank Mr C for his critique too so thank you Mr C.

Not at all Howard. I did notice that the clouds seemed a little blown and the full length of all of the benches may add impact. I am trying to learn and improve and any help is appreciated. Another viewpoint is always helpful.

Congrats Mr C. Nice work.

Above - Hinfrance - Mars and Venus - really well thought out and very clever. I love shots like this where your eye can wander round and continually pick out new things (and I did notice the four remotes). Great fun and excellent work. I like the wide angle and low aspect. Only teeny nitpicks are that the light from the floor lamps is harsh upset the symmtery a little and the pic on the wall doesn't have another pic within (but if yiou were to do that where would you stop, I suppose?).

Below - Michaalb104 - Bottom to Top - Like this one a lot. Great textures, good focus throughout, and nice use of colour pop. Really nicely composed too. B&W is always good for bringing out texture and form. A near winner and deservedly so.

Gotta dash now but next week's topic looks fun (if I can find the time!!!!)

Thanks for the commentary Ogga - I never even thought about putting a picture in the picture - you're right that would have been much better. As for the lights, again I agree, but then my camera struggles at 800 ISO, so it was that or flash; on balance I decided against flash because I felt it would be worse and I would have had to get the kit out of the bag. Lazy, moi?

And another thing, I think I forgot to congratulate our winner - so congratulations Mr C.
