There are quite a few ways to convey Depth within an image.
Use of
Focus; DOF (depth of field).
Use of
Perspective; through lines or associated size and forms.
Use of the
Angle of view.
Use of
Lighting, in the time of day / position of the sun, natural light source, ambient light, and or the use of staged lighting, projectors, reflectors (including mirrors) and shields etc.; More specifically for night scenes, interiors or studio work, where clever positioning of lighting and shade devices can provide an illusion to a greater sense of space.
Use of
Tones, a particularly useful consideration during post processing; Where accentuating, introducing highlights and lighter areas can bring things to the fore, while deepening and graduating darker tones can send things seemingly further away or assist to anchor objects when used to add shadow.
This weeks challenge is to :-
Select or create, photograph and process a view (indoors or out) of any subject you choose,
in a way that conveys Distance with as much Depth as possible, preferably within a single shot.
If you decide to submit a composite image or add elements, textures etc., from other photographs taken during the Friday to Sunday time slot, that is fine; but it will be helpful to indicate these additions, so that we can all learn more.
The above is not written towards teaching Grandma to suck eggs (as I have only been taking photography more seriously over the last 7 years and still work with a bridge camera
) but rather to acknowledge the maxims, 'think before you shoot' and 'experiment along the way'.
