Typhoon C&C

Hi all

I'm after some opinions on a series of photos of the Typhoon. I shot them at the Wings & Wheels display at Dunsfold in Surrey this summer.

Apologies for the fact that there are 6 of them. I'd love some ideas of peoples favourites, and welcome any criticis,m.

All great shots but my favourites are 2.3. and 4 because I like the glow of the engines and the sense of the aircraft powering across the sky. I like the skies also and the slight vignette around number 4. I'll have to upload some of my airshow shots and see what you think.

Thanks Karen.

I find it difficult to pick out the ones I like the most - there are bits about all of them I like and bit's I'd change (if I could). I quite like the heat disturbance in the air from the engines that you can see in some of them - it's most obvious in number 5.

They're all good Chris, and it's not easy to choose from any of them. My favourites are the ones with the blue in them, obviously the plane stands out more and blue skies make everything look nice don't they. I would perhaps have cropped in No.2 as the large white cloud lower left is quite distracting, or tone it down a touch.

My ramblings about the others, in order, below.
1.Really cool but I'd have put more in front or behind it so it wasn't centre centre, nice to see the jet trail though.
3.Great shot to get the burners in, lovely colours that punctuate the otherwise grey scene, and nice to have the lights in it too, shame the plane isn't a touch bigger, it would probably look much better at a good size in a frame on someone's wall !
4.Great shot, again nice to see the jets glowing like that, especially the cloud getting darker toward the outside of the shot. Again better at full size.
5.Fantastic heat haze, I really think with so much of the underside well shown you should have zoomed in on this some more, how big are the images, I bet just the heat haze and the after burners going out of shot would make an effective and interesting crop.
6.I know it's good to show the sky but I feel it's too much in this one.

All great shots though, where you on the ground ? How many did you take that you didn't post

Yeah, I was on the ground. I shot about 20 of the Typhoon, there are another 3 or 4 that I processed from RAW and haven't posted.

The knife edge shot of it is incredible then, how low was it for you to get it like that ? It almost looks as if you're next to it on another place or something ?

I'm not sure how high it was at that point. I think the low fly level for the show was around 500 feet (but I really don't know for sure).

I'd love to be able to get up in a plane or helicopter and shoot from the air - must cost a fortune. As a student I don't usually have the sort of outlay to do that sort of thing!

The Vulcan was pretty impressive at the same show but it didn't fly quite as low as the Typhoon....

OMG that's my fav plane of all time, XH558 !

It didn't fly at Bournemouth this year because the weather was so bad so I've not managed to see it for a while.

You've got some great shots of it there, super impressive plane, got any other images of it ???

I missed it at Shoreham this year - it was grounded at Bournemouth! So were the Red Arrows sadly.

Wings & Wheels was the next weekend and we got everything except the Battle of Britain memorial flight (which was also grounded at Bournemouth during the Bournemouth/Shoreham airshows IIRC).

Here are a few more of the Vulcan...

Hey Chris they are all great shots and I know you would like constructive critique so here goes:

Can you make your signature more opaque its very distracting and keeps drawing my eyes from some great pictures

Ps my fav is no 4 great glow in a dark sky very striking.
