i'd been promising myself an upgrade for over a year prior to building that pc but bills , family etc... prevented it from happening so when i did finaly get the chance i wanted something that would last a while because the next build is probably not going to happen for some time

Cheers Nick, thanks for the ideas... I use FreeCycle and Gumtree but it's good to get the word out for other readers of this post!.

The trouble is the gap between reasonable and needed!... I may go out and shoot 400 RAW files and a fast machine is needed to edit that lot!... and my partner uses the PC for Adobe Illustrator... in fact we use it for pretty much everything!... so it's save save save here for a while!

Nick, Yeah... similar idea for us. The last PC lasted 5 years of flat out use... our next one's going to have to do the same! : )

The hardest thing is narrowing down all the spec... I think I've figured it down to Quad core, good Ram allocation... etc etc... should be able to get something decent-ish for below 350... with some good on-line hunting!
