Was intending to take some shots of faces lit by the Chiddingfold bonfire tonight. Unfortunately just as we arrived my youngest son was sick (in full Technicolour) so we had to leave before the bonfire was even lit. I managed to get this one of my eldest (not the ill one - I do have a conscience - sometimes) at the gate as we were leaving, whwere there was a large striplight. Can't blame him for looking glum, the bonfire was enormous.

PP was crop, levels, a touch of sharpening, and Curves on the Linear Contrast setting. I only checked the rules after submitting so not sure if the last one is "legal" but trust me it's a subtle effect. I'll happily resubmit without Curves if anyone takes issue with this.

low key

No young kids anymore for bonfires. No human family members willing to pose and be on the web,
In stepped Jinky Junior who volunteered to read his favourite bed time book by the fireside at an ungodly hour this morning.

If I di find a willing victim (I mean subject) later I may change it but I`m afraid this is the best I can do for now and busy day ahead.
Love the shots so far.

Just a conversion to jpeg, bit of a crop and tweak to white balance

Scary, dames with guns, puppets that read; well I have to settle with Sweet Dreams this weekend
ISO 400 - f/3.5 - 1/3 sec; lit with a single standard low wattage bedside lamp, filtered, diffused and reflecting, through moskito netting drapped around towards creating a higher key (even light ratio) from the single source.

No entry from me this weekend I'm afraid - not enough 'free' time available to me to produce something up to a standard that this subject matter calls for.

Some nice images posted so far although I'm not entirely convinced that Marks entry fits the editing restrictions that he himself set i.e. it appears to have been converted to B+W. The image may have simply been desaturated I suppose although it looks a bit too refined for that.

apologies I thought Converting to black and white was the same as desaturation, I will remove it straight away. again I am sorry :

Put in a colour version Mark - Even though I do not like guns, it looked like a clip from a movie with the lighting through the venetian blind.

I wondered about making mine black and white but the fire didn`t look good then so left it - good job. It does make you wonder why we agreed desaturation though. Why is it Ok to desaturate which you`d need software to do really (yes I know you can change presets in camera too) when you could shoot in black and white with a compact or other camera and upload straight from there with no processing. It`s all a little tenuous. I wouldn`t have objected Mark but I guess that`s the thing with limits - we all see them differently. I`m syre the colour one will be good too if you upload it.
