The only thing I would add is that although a decent enough camera, the D5000 lacks the AF body motor, meaning you can only use the cheaper and still excellent AF-D lenses in manual focus mode. For some people its a big disappointment that they only later encounter, when they look to expand their lens kit. The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D is an excellent example of this. Its a fantastic lens which optically, produces professional quality images but for the bargain price of 100 pounds brand new. It can also be purchased on ebay secondhand for as little as 60-70 pounds. The AF-S version of the 50mm is 300 pounds and is slightly faster as its a f/1.4 aperture lens.

I'd love a Canon 550d but my budget doesn't stretch that far. It really looks an amazing bit of kit. I guess I'm scared not to choose either Canon or Nikon as they always deliver fabulous image quality. I sometimes borrow a D90 from work and adore the image quality. The features of the A33 look exciting but the overheating does concern me alittle. Lead option so far is the D3100. great Nikon quality and I would use the video as well for small home movies.....
