Elements 6 on a Notepad?

Not being that computer wise I wondered what sort of problems I might encounter, apart from small image size, if I were to load Elements 6 to my Samsung N130 (10.1" screen,1Gb Ram,160Gb drive and XP)? It's a recent purchase as I suffer withdrawal symptoms when we travel. It would be great to download pics while away and to be able to play with them. Any thoughts guys?
Dagwood
ps There is the option to change the 1Gb Ram to 2Gb.

I was considering something like this last year but the RAM limit was 1Gb - and I didn't give Elements much chance with that... but if you can get the second 1Gb I think you'll be fine, if a little slow.

I thought about it briefly for my wife's netbook. The first snag will be the lack of a cd drive... Outside of that - the processing power should be O.K. The graphics card might slow things down a bit.

I must admit - I've no idea how you'd load software onto a Netbook/Notebook - can it be done via USB from another 'puter?

You can copy stuff to a USB stick, or download from the internet, or from a shared drive on another computer on your home network, and install from there. There might be a problem if the software installation requires the original CD, but that's probably not the case with Elements.

The screen resolution may be a problem. My 10.1" Acer has 1024x600, which is a bit lacking in the vertical for many programs. Some netbooks allow the desktop to be bigger than the physical screen resolution, which gets over that problem.

I tried one of the variants on Paint Shop Pro on mine but it didn't work. I use it for photo storage and viewing, and leave the editing until I get to a proper computer.

Chris

Edit: If you've got the Netbook, and Elements, the best suggestion I can make is to try it. If it works, only you can decide if it works well enough for your needs.

Shouldn't be a problem running Elements on a netbook, as you can increase the size of your Windowns Swapfile but it may be slower than a good PC. It all depends on the graphic's chip and how quick that is. On the Gadget Show they tested three netbooks with running Videos, two locked out trying to run more than one video at the same time, but one netbook didn't crash even running four at the same time. You could use Windows viewer to display your photos on the netbook instead of Elements if it is a problem or runs very slowly.

Maybe something like Irfan View is sufficient for looking at your images 'in the field', throwing some away etc, even cropping/resizing.

I'm immensely grateful to all who replied. I guess the advice "try it" is pretty good! I'll try the transfer to USB stick and load it and then come back and let you know how I got on. I posed the question at the same time on elementsvillage .com and got advice that ACR doesn't work too well and that it's possibe that the bottom 168 lines may be missing from the display as there is a minimum vertical requirement of 768 lines and this display is apparently 600 (at least I think that was what they were saying! Thanks again and back soon,
Dagwood

One tip I have read recently to help boost the amount of Ram of a netbook is to plug a USB flash memory drive into it. You can specify it as additional ram and the processor will then use it like that.
