I add my voice to the RAW =)

and RAW files can be edited in PS but it will give you a really dead picture not like what you took from the camera, the best thing when using RAW Files is the programs of the camera such as Capture NX2 for Nikon =)

all my photography is in RAW now I hate using JPG =)

I think I said this last year but I’ll say it again, don’t you think that all entries to photographer of the year 2011 should be taken in 2011??

I just find it strange that if I took a photograph in 2006 and then did not pick up a camera again but I entered my photograph in to the 2011 competition I could become photographer of the year 2011.

Not that I ever enter, not good enough – yet

Ok off now to annoy somebody else

Keeping to within the current year may get folk taking a few more shots than before, but I bet the numbers of entered images of such fine quality may drop, as the time spread allows for a broader selection from the togs image library. Also the categories change a little each year, and a shot from a previous year may fit the brief to strike the chord.

As to not entering Mike; Looking at your work I think you ought to give it a go

If they all have to be taken in 2011 what about shots made after the last competition closed but have a 2010 date? There is one I did in December that I might enter in next years competition.

I think the Landscape Photographer Of The Year states images should be taken within the last 5 years. Perhaps POTY 2011 could be similar? Only images in last 2 years considered? Or is that penalising a good photographer who's only just found PhotoRadar...?

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

The rules for POTY 2010 also stated that you had to have taken the photo within the past 5 years.

See here:

Entries must have been taken no more than five years prior to the category submission closing date.
http://www.photoradar.com/photograph...the-year/rules

If you only had photos that were taken during 2011 - what about photos that are taken between September and December 2010 - as these wouold have missed the POTY 2010 deadline?

Amy

Fair comments from you all and I cannot disagree, as Amy said the photograph has to be taken in the last five years, those are the rules and as they say the rules are the rules.

I just cannot get my head around somebody taking a photograph in 2008 entering into the 2011 comp and ending up being photographer of the year 2011

Maybe just to stop my winging the entries should be from Sept 2010 to Aug 2011 and then everybody gets a whole year to plan and shoot their chosen photograph. This may possibly even level the playing field as well between the can only photograph at weekends because of commitments and the pro’s who do it day in, day out.

I’ll not mention this again until the 2012 comp

Good luck to all who enter, I hope you do well.

I think it's tricky one, because as someone pointed out - you may have a photograph taken a couple of years ago that matches perfectly any of the new categories that get announced, and it would seem a shame to exclude it for the reason of dates.

If they changed it to be only allowed between September 2010 and August 2011, that only really gives the time from the competition announcement (and new categories) until it closes to plan and take the shots.

I am sure Andy said once that exif data can be faked so that means dates can be changed?

Does that not put the 5 year limit into question?
