nikon D3 - error message

Hi all

I recently got myself the Nikon 500mm f4p lens and i tired it on my D3 today and after every picutre I take I get the error message on the top screen - the pictures are brilliant but this error message is annoying I have check everything I can think of and it still does not work and anybody help me ?

Not sure, but you may need to put the lens data into the camera. Also, may need to set the aperture to maximun on the lens when mounting on the camera.

What error message are you seeing? What does the camera manual say about it?

I jusst get the " Err" display on my top lcd screen I cant think what is wrong with it as i have an Old Tamron 300mm 2.8 which is manual and it work brilliantly and also i have put in all the non cpu data about the lens and set the D3 up for manual use like the manual said to do and my 500mm still doenst work anybody got any ideas ? #
