Uploads and numbers.

I rarely look at the galleries because the thumbnails are too difficult to see or appreciate what the work is. However today, after reading this thread, I took a peek, and was not surprised to see that the other old problem exists.

Someone earlier suggested that a 'bulk' upload facility would be good, the latest recent upload page, some 25 images, are taken by just 3 photographers. It's almost like the old days when someone came back from Boots with a folder full of pictures and bored you to death with them.

Is nobody selective with their work any more? An allowance of two pictures a week would make people think more about their images and maybe, just maybe raise the standard just a little.

Alan, this is the fault of the digital era. When film cost around 15p a shot to buy and process, photographers took care with what they shot. Today's photographer clicks away with merry disregard for composition etc, and end up shooting hundreds of images that are meaningless and poorly framed, let alone badly exposed.

I have had my 5d for 4 years and still, according to my image file numbers, havegiven the camera less than 3000 actuations. The camera is still mint, and I mean flawless, yet I have had some amazing images from it. My advice is for those shooting like there is no tomorrow and uploading a stack of worthless shots and expect people to wade through them and comment; slow down and take more care.

Perhaps there should be a "number of viewings" figure available on our personal photo page that shows just how many people have looked at each picture. Andy

I quite agree, I uploaded a number of images several days ago and commented on a number of other people's images but could not help noticing that comments were few and far between.

I'd readily add a rating to pictures I see, but perhaps if there were less adverts on the front page we might get inspired to look at a few shots from other people - but then we know that a website like this thrives (or just exists) by the amount of advertising it carries.

Then there's the fact that, to give a rating, you have to make a comment - and hopefully a meaningful comment and not just a word. That's still ok but then you meet the page reload times - it's like I'm back on a 28kbps modem...... Somebody particularly asked for critique on his pictures a couple of weeks back so I thought I'd have a go - nearly an hour later I'd still done less than ten, all due to page reload times - and I'm on a 10Mbps connection!
