You'll be disappointed if they go to a polycarbonate body then

Well, yes, Alex. It might not keep me from buying one, but the polycarbonate bodies just are not as tough.

it seems thats the way Canon are going these days as the polycarbonate bodies will be a lot cheaper to manufacture which = more profit for Canon.

Well ...... I dropped my 60D from about 6 foot the week after I got it and I reckon the plastic body absorbed the impact as it works perfectly.

Well I have a 7D and have no reason to upgrade, I have a bridge camera with an articulated screen and rarely use that. If the 60D had been available when I upgraded from my 40D I may well have gone for that.but then it wasn't and the 50D wasn't enough of and upgrade from the 40D.

I will be interested to see what a 7D MK II provides, but it is going to have to provide something major for me to want to part with cash.

Yes by rights the 5d MkIII should come out first as I believe the MKII was out 6 months before the 7D, I remember the huge dillema I had at the time on which one to get. As others have indicated though Canon may just combine both models into one new camera, I guess it would be quite cool if they did a full sensor body that could switch between APS-C and FF to allow EF-S lenses to be used as well EF lenses.

I believe some of the full frame Nikon camers do this although I do accept I could be talking rubbish

I`m still very happy with my 50D. Can not find a reason to change it. Going to a 60D from my 50D, i do not consider that and upgrade. My fire rate is faster, i have a tougher body, it also has a decent MP count.

I also have a 40D, which has a fire rate quicker still and that is what is important to me as i shot alot of motorsport. If i where to upgrade it would be a 7D.

For me the 60D is a gimmick camera and aimed at the holiday snapper looking for more bang. When I got a chance to use one it just felt like a toy to use and im a bit more serious about my photography then an enthusiast (in the sense that I plan to go pro and have done some paid work). While holding it I was looking for the hand strap you get on video cameras. DSLR's are best used via the view finder, it felt to me like I was using a heavy point an shoot. If I had one, live view would only be used when her indoors wishes to take a family snap with me in the frame. Less buttons are annoying (I have the 50D) and the software driven filters are another gimmick that confirms the market this camera is for.

The HD video thing on DSLR's, I can see the market and advantage in the enthusiast models but agree thats its pointless and unnecessary in semi-pro/pro models. I am one that says DSLR's are for stills and video cameras are for motion and in the semi-pro/pro range it should stay like that. Manufacturing may not cost that much more for an on-board mic, capturing chips and software but as an extra feature it does drive the price up to the consumer.

Im sure its a great camera to some but for me its a never. I plan to go from the 50D to either the 7D or 5D, budget and lens will make the choose.
