Must say that I really like the 60D (OH has the 60D and I've the 7D) but neither of us ever use the video abilities. Why? Because it's taken me years to get me to the point where I can occasionally take an OK stills shot and video is a whole new skillset - underlined by the mass of total rubbish videos around. It's just another symptom of those that think that if they buy the gear (preferably expensive gear) they'll automatically take good pics!

I bought the 60d as I wanted something a little better than an entry level camera and as a 500d is classed by a few as being an entry level camera i went for the 60D with 2 lenses and is costs around half the price of a 7D with kit lenses.
The swivel screen is a godsend for those of us that are not as mobile as some others by the time i managed to get down to ground level whatever I was trying to photograph would probably have moved on, also getting back up again is difficult too as you get on in years
overall I am pleased with the purchase of my 60D

For me it was the cost, yes.

Im still fairly new to photography and have just upgraded from the 1000D entry level to the 60D. Still trying to familiarise myself with all the settings but Im really excited about it.

The swivel screen is great for people like me with back/kness issues, as I can still get lower shots without having to get on down to the ground.

I don't feel experienced enough to comment much more on this yet, but I'm cerainly happy with it and it came recommended from a few on here.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! This thread went over a year with no posts.

Well, to keep it fresh, a year later, I would still go for a 7D. Ok, 7D MkII

This seems to have become a debate about the 7D now, but as a 60D owner I will risk sticking my neck out here. I cut my teeth on a 30-yr old fully manual Pentax K1000 film camera and have not felt the need or desire to upgrade to digital until the usual labs started screwing up my prints due to old chemicals and inexperience.

60D is my first purchase and I'm delighted with it. Its ergonomic, intuitive and has already been traveling all over with me. The screen is useful and quite sturdy, I never use the HD except right at the start due to novelty, the filters are fun but I do most of my processing on computer. My only issue is finding the autofocus fractionally too slow for aussie birds sitting in eucalyptus leaves, but as I'm used to manual focus this is't a problem for me. Being relatively new to such luxury I assume its no worse than other autofocus drives.

I'm no pro photographer but I find the 60D gives me full creative licence, excellent quality and enough room to grow. This is my investment for the next innings of camera evolution. Next step is an upgrade away from kit lenses.

7D Mark II?

Has anyone heard any rumors as to whether or not the new 7D will have a vari-angle LCD? I hear rumors that it might not be that far away and I am debating whether I should wait for the new 7D Mark II or if I should just go and get the 60D. From everything I can see, the 7D is a better camera, but that vari-angle LCD makes me want it, a lot. Of course, I can always tie it into my computer, but that isn't as useful when I am moving about.

I have also heard that they might also allow the use of SD cards?

Anyone heard the rumors?

Frank

(As long as we are resurrecting old threads, we might as well convert them...

Latest I have heard is the 7D II announced at Photokina, but no details on camera specs.

Basically, the 7D is for sports photographers, where as the 60D is for more general use. No other reason to buy a 7D over a 60D really.

Hi Jimmy,

Well that and the 19 focus points (the 8 fps is nice, but I don't usually need it). However, I am hoping that the new version of the 7D will keep the nicer camera body, add the articulated screen, and generally boost some of the other stats, particularly the ISO.
