I won't be impressed until I can put the K-5 in the washing machine with a 1200 RPM spin cycle and have it come out smelling like spring flowers

If it still worked I'd consider giving it a 4 for build quality

That Youtube vid is quite inspiring for confidence on the Pentax, I've never seen a Nikon or Canon of the same or greater value have that done !

Those comments underneath are so pathetic too, the most irrelevant one being "somebody needs to get a girlfriend" which is so rich coming from someone who has watched it and then read the posts and writes something as intelligent as that, brilliant.

Impressive though, I wouldn't want to shoot in heavy rain but being caught in it is something that wouldn't bother me.

Nice find, thanks for sharing it with us.

Just copying those old videos of people cleaning their Olympus E-l in the shower/bath - now that was a robust camera!
Snapsort seem pretty impressed with the K-5....

So I'm just thinking aloud here. I've always used Pentax and always got on well with them. When my last one was stolen the insurance company replaced it with a Pentax MZM, horrible cheap plasticy thing, none the less it was a camera, with it I also got an electronic cable release and a flash. None of this is to hand and as I said I'm think aloud so haven't had the time to go and research it yet.

What are the chances of both of those items working with a new Digi SLR (K5) if I were to purchase one ? I know it's trivial stuff but having been looking at both Canon and Nikon for some time and see the prices of cable releases and dedicated flashes for them I just wonder if I could save myself a few quid. I'm guessing no but it's worth a shot. I'll go off an research it now but if anyone can offer any advice without derailing the K5 thread too much I'd be very grareful, ta

The flash will not work TTL, but just as a manual flash. It depends on what the flash is as to whether it is worth keeping or not. I still have an AF400 FTZ which I use with a wireless trigger on manual sometimes.

I'm not sure about the electronic release, but to the best of my knowledge that will still work.

But with wireless releases for £10.99 on eBay (the Canon and Pentax ones are the same), and combined wireless remote and flash triggers for less than £25 I wouldn't worry too much about the old stuff you have in stock.

Except for lenses, of course

Had a call from the vendor today on mine - guess what? 'In stock' meant 'we're expecting a few'. Still they have now shipped, but I am not going to get it until next week sometime at best. Ah well.

Isn't it really irritating when that happens. It is a fairly common ploy used by too many online retailers (not only photographic). You were lucky, H, that your K-5 is now on its way to you - often that misrepresentation by dealers can result in a wait of weeks and difficulty getting your money refunded if you are not prepared to hang on.

I just saw that Pentax has a double-page ad in this week's AP. The sleeping beauty awakes. Perhaps they are encouraged by all the good reviews of the K-5 and Kr. I'm pleased for them.
