PS Problem...

Hello all, I can't seem to replicate this tutorial;

http://www.photoradar.com/techniques...s-in-photoshop

The annoying thing is that I have previously successfully followed the tutorial with no problems yet I when trying to do it again I get stuck at the gradient stage and the gradient tool is not working it actually does nothing when I plot the line on the image.

Have I inadvertently switched it off or something?

Many thanks,

Orbster.

You made the Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer and you're painting with the gradient on the layer mask box? If there's a problem there I'd say it's one of two things..... either your Blend Mode of that layer is still set to Normal (in which case nothing would happen because no changes were made to that adjustment layer). So make sure that's set to Multiply. Sometimes, the Tool Mode itself (in the options bar at the top) may not be on Normal. Check that it is.... a bit of bad design by Adobe can leave the top or bottom mode invisible without moving the scroll bar.

Thanks Geoff, it was the tool mode as you pointed out.

I'm still very much the novice in PS and photography in general and it's little things like this that really leave you stumped unless you're a bit more PS savvy.

On a separate point, I'm still unable to make the history brush work - I wanted to do that selective desaturation technique by adding a BW adjustment layer and then painting over bits with the history brush to reveal little bits of colour, any pointers?

Believe it or not, Orbster.... I made my diagnosis on the first problem without ever having touched 'full' Photoshop.... it's just something that's the same in Elements.

History Brush, though...... that's something not in Elements so it would need a proper PS expert... Hope somebody comes along shortly.

Shouldn't happen but they did replace power supplies for Actiontec MI-424-WR routers several months ago, Possible that you have one of the old ones if that's the router you're using? I think the newer on has a yellow sticker on it. by (grecord)
