Question Using CPL with ND filters produces strong blues on one side

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Lee DSLR starter kit with wide angle adapter ring to play with a 2 stop ND grad, overall ND and Big Stopper.

When I was taking a few test shots the other evening on the 5D MkII with 24-105mm lens at about 35mm, I noticed that there was a very strong blue hue on the right hand upper quadrant of the image. I presume that this is the CPL that's attached to the lens (Hoya Pro 1-D), but I checked that it was polarising in the viewfinder first.

Is this normal behaviour and is there anything that I can do to limit this strange effect?

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete,

Could you post the image on-line so we can have a look and give you our honest opinion? It's very difficult to answer these types of questions without seeing it first.

Thanks,

the blue hue is in the upper centre of the frame.

I'd say that's definitely just one of those things with the CPL..... tricky things to judge exactly where to turn them to.

I was tempted to make a joke about it being the sky, not a blue hue.

Looking at it, Geoff is right. It's the polariser. You often get this if you've not positioned either yourself or your filter in the right direction to the sun. It's partial polarisation.

Thanks guys - that's great feedback. I've now removed them from Flickr so probably wont link in this thread anymore.

Thanks again.
