Which brand of printer paper would you recommend?

I've nearly run out of A4 size printer paper and was wondering which brand of paper I should buy next time round.

Which brands do you prefer and would recommend for use with a Canon inkjet printer?

Hi Ian,

I was having real trouble getting a colour match between what I was seeing on screen and what was actually printing (canon inkjet printer). As a last resort I dumped the Kodak, Jessops etc photo paper, and bought some Canon Pro Semi Gloss photo paper, what a difference, it was quite a bit more expensive but in my view worth it.

So in answer to your question, I would go with Canon paper every time now.

Canon too .it's made for the inks and profiling is simple from within windows or photoshop.

That's interesting guys, because I've been looking around and Permajet, Ilford and Hahnemuhle all seem to be very highly regarded, but then Canon only seemed to perform well with a Canon printer.

I'm looking for some Fine Art paper and some smooth matt paper specifically for two projects I have looming on the horizon. Is Canon's Pro Platinum Paper worth the extra if you want something really special?

Hahnemuhle certainly have a great reputation for their all their papers, so I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong with any of them. More important to have the Paper Profiles for whatever you use.

I keep buying cheap boxes of 12 'samples' from a relatively unknown and cut-price manufacturer called 'Inkpress', in Canada, and their website has all the profiles for printer/paper combinations - I was in a rush to get some prints into a competition last April but I made sure I had the right profiles. Everything went right first time, I printed six images on about five different types of paper, entered them in a competition..... and came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th and 11th!!!!
