Problems with Epson PHOTO R800 Printer

Hi
I am having problems with my Epson PHOTO R800 printer, the printer heads are blocked and I cannot clear them by the Epson cleaning process. In fact I have just gone through a new set of Jet Tec cartridges trying to unblock the printer heads.

Can anyone advise on the best method to clear an Epson printer head.

Also I have read that unlike other printer which come with printer head as part of the cartridge, Epson's printer head are separate from the cartridge.

If I am unsuccessful with unblocking the printer heads, what would the best inkjet printer to buy for A4 size prints with the ability to print DVD discs.

I had similar problems with print heads continually blocking on a Kodak printer. The fact that the heads are separate from the cartridges is a real bonus as you can just replace them.

How old is the printer? Even if it's out of warranty all electrical goods have an "expected lifetime" and a component failure within that lifetime should be resolved by the manufacturer. In other words, get in touch with Epson, kick up a fuss and they'll send you a new print head.

I just did a quick google (highlighted "clear an Epson printer head" in your post) and found lots of hits on that. There are some videos too. There are some links from Epson's own support site, but I did not see one for your specific printer.

I know that amounts to "let me google that for you" but I am sure there is something there while you wait for someone with actual experience to reply

I am a fan of printers that replace the print head/fuser/ erc with the toner and ink. Being an IT guy, I have seen the problems the other design can cause.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your help, I had done a Google search and didn't find what I was looking for, however, I entered your description and found 'Magic Bullet' sold by Lyson. Looking at the video it seems that this may do the trick, so I purchased the product. I will let the forum know how it works out. At £10.42 plus VAT and P&P, if successful it will work out a lot cheaper than the ink cartridges that I have used thus far trying the printer cleaning process.

Yeah, £10.42 + VAT is cheaper than ink but a new head from Epson is free!

Hi Chris-p
I don't think that I can change the printer head on the Epson PHOTO R800, I maybe wrong, but I thought that I would opt for the 'Magic Bullet'.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood - I though you said the print head was not part of the cartridges.
