what flash ???

i'm thinking of getting a flashgun to go with my d3000, for around the £100 - £150 i would probably like to stick with the nikon brand but as it would be my first flash and i would like to learn about flash, then i supose that if another make would be better for that then i would consider it.
i would like to use it off camera with some kind of wireles unit, but not sure how this all works so, is the d3000 even capable of off camera flash or ...

any advise would be helpful.

The D5000 hasn't got commander mode built-in like the D200 or D300, so you need either a SB800, which is no longer made, or the SB900 which replaced it. Yes, you can buy radio trigger to fit the hot shoe to fire a flash off-camera but the don't come cheap. Lastolite Flash Trigger Set at £50 and a range of ten meters would do that but you need to make sure the flash gun has a PC or X-sync cord to attach the unit to the flash gun.
