Pse7..raw???

Hi,Hope someone can point me in the right direction..Im using PhotoShop elements 7, and have just started doing my photography in Raw. I thought that if you access PSE7 with a raw file then it automatically opens the Raw work space. This does not happen and its telling me that it does not recognise the file.
I am also using Canons DPP software and that opens the file perfectly,I can aslo transfer them from DPP to PSE7, but again have the same problem..any ideas where Im going wrong.

Many thanks

Alex.

Ok, so you've told us that you own a Canon camera by the fact that you are using DPP but kindly enlighten us as to what model of camera. Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) is a plug-in to both Photoshop and Elements and as such is updated from time to time as newer cameras are released. However, there is a limit to these ACR plug-in updates and as newer versions of Photoshop and Elements are released support for older plug-ins is not forthcoming. As an example the latest ACR plug-in release is version 6.1 and this only works with Photoshop CS5 and Elements version 8.

So, if you advise us which camera you are using we'll know more about which version of ACR offers support for that camera and, perhaps more importantly for you, whether it is supported in PSE7.

Ok, assuming you are on a PC follow this file path:- Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. Inside the file formats folder you will see a file called camera raw and the file type is .8bi . Right click on this .8bi file and check the version number and if it is anything other than version 5.6 then click on this link: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=4624
and download the newer version onto your desktop. Double-click the downloaded file (it's a zip file) and inside you will find an .8bi file which is version 5.6 . Replace the original .8bi file by dragging and dropping it into the folder you originally opened. This 5.6 version of camera raw does support your 50D. Best of luck and of course let us know how you got on.

Sadly, Forseti, the time and care you've taken with this answer (and others) in this forum have been a waste of time. Shame that some people don't have the manners to reply and thank you.

Forseti, Thankyou for your assistance and I did manage to get things sorted. I also apologise for not getting back to you sooner however sometimes circumstances dictate that you cannot do things that you would want to..

Best wishes

Alex.

Well Geoff, Sometimes you cant do what you want as circumstances dictate otherwise.I was not in a position to reply to Forseti, but I have now and apologised, maybe you should not be too quick to judge other people..without knowing what problems others could be having.

Thanks, Alex60...... yes, I probably was a bit hasty that evening! I must have been on Flickr before and noticed how many times I've answered a question on there without getting any feedback. Sorry.
