Photography Institute Online Course

Hi,

I was just wodnering if anyone had heard of this course, and if anyone can give an insight into it. I am a beginner to photography and looking at a course I can do in my spare time to learn techniques etc.

The website link is http://www.thephotographyinstitute.c...m?content=home

This looks really interesting and looks like it covers a great deal, so a great place to start. I am looking at learning the ropes whilst still working full time, with an eventual aim of giving up work and doing photography, which is my real passion.

Hi Callum
Did you sign up for the course and if yes how are you finding it? I am thinking of doing this course myself.
Thanks
Debbie

Frankly, I'm sceptical of these things. It might just be me - I've seen similar threads about this particular course before but I've never seen a poster come back and say anything about it (even whether they took it).

If it was me, I'd be looking for an accredited, recognised course for that sort of money...

I've seen this course as well and thought it looked good - but am also a bit suspicious, the name The Photography Institute makes it all sound official but what kind of accreditation does it give if any? If any one has done it or has any information it would be great to hear about it

I was just reading through the Course Outline. It does seem very comprehensive and yet....... the word 'composition' doesn't appear anywhere. Just a thought.

The thing is, I just don't see the point. You don't get anything you can't get online as decent video tutorials. Modules 7, 11 and 12 would be better taught in person rather than on the internet, but otherwise all this information is there, as proper lessons and tutorials for free.

And as I said above, it seems like a lot of money to me, especially considering it's not professionally (or academically) registered, accredited or recognised.

Wink

I down loaded the prospectus and found nothing about any form of qualification or accreditation.

Maybe it's worth putting them on the spot and asking them what accreditation or professional recognition can the course earn? Clearly they won't be able to give an answer. Something recognised by the City and Guilds would be useful. 500 pounds for nothing at all...... not good.
