5D or 1D?

Hi All!!

Im looking to upgrade from my 20D, ive been looking at either the 5D or the 1D but cant decide.

I dont want to pay much more than 1K so its gonna have to be a used one, not fussed about video but the 5D mk2's 21MP is quite appealing.

What would you all recommend?

looks like a 1000 quid will get you a 1d mk3 ( just ) but i doub't you'l pick up a 5d mk2 for a grand considering mk1 still demand £800 +

out of those two it would have to be the 1d mk3

thanks for your replys,

after looking at the 2 i think the 5d might be a bit easier to use (going from the 20), am i right?

the only reason i was thinking about the mk2 5d is due to the high res for cropping.

what would be the advantages of having a 1d mk3 over the 5d mk1?

thanks again.

oh and what about the 7D ................. ?

I don't think it's going to make much difference. The only thing is that the 5D and 1D don't have any auto modes. I've actually seen someone on this forum complain about the 5DII because they upgraded from a 300D which they always used in sport mode and their new camera wouldn't do what their old one would...

If you can get either a 5D II or a 7D for your budget then I'd personally go for one of those. Which one depends on what you shoot. APS-C is useful for longer focal lengths, the 5D is excellent for wideangle and video.

lol! I mainly use TV or M so the auto modes arnt a problem, i just noticed on the 1D that there is no wheel to change them so i presume its in the digital menu?

i like shooting a lot of fast moving objects, wildlife, motorsport etc but at the same time love the chance to get shooting a weddings etc, im not a great fan of using a flash so low noise with high ISO would be lovely!

There was a lot of "why don't you go and learn how to use your camera properly before buying an expensive camera.." type comments after that particular post!

On the 1Ds MkIII you change exposure mode using a "mode" button on the top left of the camera and the front selector wheel (link).
