Thanks - I love your photo of the owl, we don't get owls, or foxes or anything interesting like that to photograph over here unfortunately. I also like your panorama in Pembrokeshire. My brother lived in Pembroke for a while (many years ago).

Hi Muffy and welcome to the forum. I'm not from New Zealand, but I was there for a few weeks last year. I passed through the Hawkes Bay area and found plenty of photo opportunities. You can get some impressive shots of the gannets at Cape Kidnappers for instance and a magnificent waterfall at Waipunga, near Tarawera on Route 5 heading to Taupo from Napier to name but two.

Yep - been to the gannets plenty of times. At the moment the Hawke's Bay is in flood, we have had 48 hours of torrential rain and roads are closed in many places. When the weather settled again I might head up the Wairoa road to a little waterfall called Shines Falls which will no doubt be a slightly BIGGER waterfall at the moment. If I take any worthwhile shots I will post them here.

Well, as you know, when it rains in New Zealand it usually torrential and yes it helps to beef up the waterfalls, no matter whether they're on the North or South Island. Let's be honest, both Milford and Doubtful Sound always look far more impressive after a good soaking and with an average rainfall of 25 - 29m per year, you'd have to say they were pretty waterlogged!

I look forward to seeing a shot of the mighty Shine Falls soon.
