Canon EOS 50D v Canon EOS 7D

I am looking for help, I wish to buy a new Canon Camera but I cannot decide between the foregoing cameras. I am looking to take photographs for pleasure, landscapes and Macro. Having looked at the PhotoPlus Buyers Guide I am looking at the Sigma range of Lenses. I can see the additional features of the Canon EOS 7D, but I wonder whether the body only price difference is worth paying. Can anyone please give me some help on this matter.

hi there, i read your question in photoplus and hope the following helps. i originally had a 400d and after 2 years of exellent service decided to upgrade. I could not afford the 5Dmk11 at the time so after trying one out i bought a 50D. this has proved to be an exellent camera, and despite some people complaining of noise, i just dont see it. i mostly have a sigma 150-500mm F5.6-6.3 telephoto lens attached, and regularly shoot at 400 and 800 iso with no problems with noise at all. i have taken some stunning pictures of the squirrels and woodpeckers that visit our garden and have printed up to A2 and still had superb results. some shots at iso 1600 did start to show some noise, but this was minor and easily controlled with adobe ACR. note also that I now have a 5Dmk11 with a canon 24-105L lens which is amazing, but to be honest, i use the 50d far more often. if movie making is of interest to you then go for the 7D, but if its just super pictures that you want, buy the 50D and use the change to get an L series lens. (Quality is all in the glass) good luck, Roger

I recently got to try out a Canon 7D and I absolutely loved it! My pennies are definitely being saved up for that bad boy!

However, I've also tried a 50D and found it so incredibly intuitive to use that it made a really easy transition from my normal 400D.

The big selling point of the 7D is obviously the ability to shoot movies, but it also has 8fps burst, great auto-focusing and spot-on metering. However, these features aren't really worth the extra cash if you don't plan on photographing high-speed sports or making short films with your camera.

So, from a personal point of view, I'd recommend the 50D unless you plan on branching into other, more specialist areas of photography. Oh, and I'd highly recommend any of the Sigma wide-angle lenses too!

I have the Canon 50D thinking of upgrading to the 7D is it worth the upgrade from the 50D. The 8 fps will help with my wildlife photography.

I need to upgrade my camera too - still using a 300D! From talking to Canon people at trade shows, and reading reviews and looking at various bodies, the 7D is the one for me. I know Canon staff would be biased and push me up the range but I was also looking at the 5D mkII so I think I got decent advice (and I know a couple of people at Canon!).

The 50D is a great camera but the 7D has better weather sealing which, for me, is the most important part as I mainly shoot landscapes in misty/raining/up-to-my-knees-in-sea conditions. Plus it just sat better in my hands than the 50D.

I also have a 2-year old boy so better frame rate and built-in flash would help...

Perhaps while we're all pondering, and saving the extra pennies for a 7D, the 60D will come out and blow all predecessors out of the water!!
