Portrait of an Elephant, C&C Please

Hi all first post here so be gentle

Just going through some old shots and thought I would upload some for C&C/viewing.

This was taken about this time last year at Australia Zoo in QLD. Cannot remember any settings but I am sure there is some EXIF data there.

Edited in PS and the B&W conversion was done in Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro.

Many thanks for looking.

Vince Callaghan

Can't tell much from the size here but the B&W conversion is fine - but (IMHO) any portrait, human or animal, needs a catchlight in the eye. For me it's the difference between the subject being dead or alive. I'd try looking at it really close-up and seeing if there's a smidgeon of light in the eye.... if there is, try putting a couple of bright white pixels there. If it doesn't make it come alive I'll eat my cat.

Elephant eyes do not easily have catchlights as they are protected bt long eyelashes to protect them from the dust. Here is one of my portraits to explain what I mean.

I absolutely love it, If you hadn't told me it was an elephant I would have said it was Gollum from lord of the rings.
