Gamma!

I am about to by a monitor calibration devise as despite my best efforts with SuperCal and Macs own calibration wizard there is still a big difference between what is printed and what is on screen. It is not so much the colour but the brightness and Gamma. I understand what Gamma is but it is the relativity of it all that starts to boggle the mind.(eg. viewing images edited on a Gamma 2.2 PC on a Gamma 1.8 Mac)

Anyway my real question is...

Will the calibration devise I buy calibrate the brightness and Gamma of my display as well?
ie. will what I print have the same Gamma as my screen?

Hi Matthew,

Yes it will configure both the gamma and colouration, so long as you give it the correct values for your printer. You see, the calibrator needs a benchmark by which it can check the screen settings against. It then will advise you what adjustments you will need to make to equalize it to the benchmark, which is of course your printer.
