Canon extender

Hi all, have considered for some time buying a canon extender ef2x mk2. Any positives or negatives on this as I have never read any reviews. Use a canon 450d with 10-22 and 17-85 and 55-250 lens

a quick look here and elsewhere says go for the 1.4 .

this site also explains why I would say forget it

the trouble is any extender will lose you light ,make the viewfinder image darker and may even prevent autofocussing .

Put a poor lens in front of it and any flaws get exagerated.

There's only really any point using it on the 55 to 250 to extend the range as far as I see the extenders are made to a similar spec as the L series lenses e'g the 70 200 f 2.8 where it pairs up well.

I would be more inclined to save money and buy something like a Kenro extender for those times you want more reach.

1.4x TC = 1 stop loss and slight quality reduction
2.0x TC = 2 stop loss and much more of a reduction in quality

I had the Canon 1.4X TC and found no discernible difference with the much cheaper Kenko 1.4X, so binned the Canon (which'll only fit some lenses whereas the Kenko will fit all)
