Angry Please Inspire me

I have found myself not getting that feeling when I take my camera with me and have lost alot of enthuisamism when I take my camera out over the last month

I have loved developing my skill over last 5 years but this last month I have felt I have just took camera and pointed it any thing just because I was out

I drove 40 mins to the coast of sunday evening to take some sunset and landscape pic but just didnt feel inspire and felt it was just a long walk and took the photos because I had driven that far and the end result showed this

I also when the a localish nature reserve the other night to try and get some good shot of plants, animal.birds etc but just ended up walking for hours with a heavy kit bag

I think every one of us gets that feeling from time to time. Sometimes I ask myself what the point is, especially when I let shots go because I have taken them a hundred times or more. Writers know it as 'writer's block'.

Also, especially after such a long winter as we have had this year, the camera has been quite inactive, or we just can't be bothered to take it with us as you say.

Well there is nothing like a good project to get you going. Have a good look around you and decide to do something different. Maybe the way the sun falls into your living room at certain times of the day, creating shadows and colours through a glass vase, or bookcase, mirror etc, etc. Have a look around your own Town Centre for cameo shots. You may not find anything straight away. Maybe a Blurb book project is the answer. All my keepers generally end up in a Blurb book, as that's the way I archive my images. Family and friends love looking through them.

Anyway, come the summer months you will find tons of stuff to shoot. Hope this helps a little.

I was "suffering" from the same thing....like KeithT says its a photographic form of "writers block". I set myself a challenge to go out a get some insect shots, something I have never done before, so maybe move onto a different subject, step out of your comfort zone and go for something that is going to challenge both you and your camera.

Water is always a good subject, from drops to raging river rapids and waterfalls you can freeze the action or create a silk like effect with slow shutter speeds...what about Urban Photography?...shooting litter left by kids in a park or the homeless making the best of a bad situation..things that would make people stop and think...

Sometimes you get the best inspiration when you're not looking for it...eg sometimes you look so hard for something to shoot that you miss whats right in front of your lens...take a step back and draw in whats around you.

I passed a location the other day...I wasn't even looking for anywhere, just going about my job driving....It's a place called "Rosehall" up here in the Highlands.....a tiny village...have driven through it dozens of times, but noticed a forest walk that looked promising, so will check it out this weekend....

Strange, as I can't wait to get out with the camera. If I haven't been out for a couple of days I'm straining at the bit thinking of all the shot I have missed. Today I spent an hour waiting for a Fox to appear but he didn't. I shall be back tomorrow to try again. I didn't get the Fox, but later got cracking shots of a Comma Butterfly and later still a Swift in flight. I shoot mainly Nature and Wildlife and know that the more I go out the more chances I have of getting great photos regardless of the weather or time of year.

Take some pictures of something you never usually do. Try a project, like work on one technique. You could do what I did recently, I took my "nifty 50" 1.8 and ONLY took pics with it for two weeks. It makes you look at things differently when you only have a prime lens on the camera.
