Cheers Matt, thats a useful link.

I'm slightly skeptical of most of these things as every single method I've seen (apart from service engineers with proprietary software) gets ridiculed.

We need someone with a brand new, never used camera to count the actuations for a while and see how accurate they are!

I have used this programme and it appears to be accurate.
I checked the file number of the first shot I took with my Canon 40D ( new) and then I checked the file number of the last image I took and hey presto it gave a reading of 19,000 images. (I import all my images into Lightroom using location or date as file name plus the original file number from the camera) so I can confirm fine to use Cheers Peter

I'm with you Chris. I tried the application linked to by Matt on my old 40D and found it way way off the mark. Fortunately the only images in Lightroom at that time were from the 40D making it easy to see just how many images had in fact been taken. I seem to recall reading somewhere that this application only appears to be accurate if a single CF card is used in the camera throughout it's life-time in addition to the file numbering being set to Continuous.
