Déja vu

I seem to come across more and more photographs that I have seen before in previous POTY competitions. If they did not win then, do they have a better chance now? They must be familiar to a lot of people, but does this increase their chances?
Does anyone know? Would you vote for them again?

Hi Reinhardina,

I have to admit to entering some of my favourites again (some after refined post processing / editiing). As to your questions, all I can say is that I think they are worth re entry, because they received quality votes last time round.

Hi Andy!

Like you, I had some 'high flying' pictures last year, but I feel that if they weren't good enough to make it onto the short list then, they won't achieve anything now. Improved/edited versions may attract the right sort of attention though. We'll have to wait and see.

Hope the weather is better on your side of the water! Have a nice weekend.

Reinardina.

Hi Reinardina,

The categories are broader this year, tastes and market needs also change

I do not think it is a case of 'not cutting it'(for want of a phrase) the first time round on single images or I would have given up a long time ago.

Have a good weekend too

I was tempted to submit a photo that made the shortlist last year but decided against it for the reasons you state Reinardina. If it wasn't good enough then, then I doubt it will be now. But you never know I suppose, different judges may see work in a different light. Some of the shots I submitted are a long a similar theme so time will tell.

If you consider the competition is photographer and not photograph of the year, coupled with the overall high standard and volume in numbers submitted each year, a good shot is surely worth re entry.

Are you alllowed to do that ? I thought you couldn't or have I misread the rules. As I have a photo I would like to upload that I entered in a local competiton, it got a commended and accepted for exhibition but didn't win anything.
Anyway

Hi Sarah,
I read the rules to understand that it was OK if the image had not won anything in previous competitions - I'm not sure whether a commended is classed as winning an award as in 1st 2nd 3rd etc.,?

Good luck and best wishes

If a person enters a photograph taken last year and it wins does that not actually make the person taking the shot photographer of the year 2009 and not photographer of the year 2010 just a thought.

The comp' invites pictures of no more than 5 years old, I think that's why it's photographer of the year and not photograph of the year.
