Flash for Macro

Can I use my Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flashgun with my macro lense? and has anyone got any pit falls with using it ?

Yes you can.Ettl works fine .Ideally get an off camera cord as well.The cheapo jessops one maintains all settings .Good idea to experiment either with flash exposure bracketing or go manual .Depending on flash to to subject distance you may well want to drop power output down.

The stofen omnibounce really softens things up too.

Thanks for the info matt i hoped you see the post because I know you use the flash. do you use anything to trigger the flash off camera or just the cable? I think I metioned it before, I have a interfit transmitter but someone said it didnt work with the etti.

no as yet have not got into external triggers .I find the cable extends far enough for me not to need it.

I've got a cheaper copy of the "Ray flash" which converts my 580II flash into a ring flash - works very well with my 100mm macro lens.
