Sounds good Jim - looking forward to seeing the theme but probably only got Friday and Saturday to have a go at it as I am away for a few days after with no / limited internet access
Thanks for the comments Jim and oggalily. My personal brief had been to shoot wide open and use very shallow dof to isolate but good point about darkening the background a bit more too.
I liked Cutter`s original too but there was a little too much noise in it for me and I thought that might be why you changed it.
Spot on Paul there was too much noise I loved the concept and the idea but could not produce the results if anyone can help me with trying to acheive the same sort of low light shot without noise I am all ears.

Oh and well done Jim great photo and look forward to your theme for next week. will do my above and below later when time allows .

Congrats on the win this week Jim.

Above - Chrisp
Really liked the idea of this one and almost got my vote. Great depth of field and sense of emptiness, welll empty bottles anyway. I hope the hangover wasn't to bad.

Below - Matt Wilson - Empty Promises
Very true statement with all the election debates going on. I like the blue hue that you have put on the image. I just feel that it lacks impact.

Off camping at the weekend so unless I get an image in tomorrow will not have chance to enter. Good luck to all this week.

Thanks Ian. It's nice to know someone is thinking of me!!

Cheers Guy. The hangover wasn't as bad as I'd feared it was going to be. It was a most enjoyable shot to set up though...!

Well done again jim.

Above Andy: Empty Hand Recycling Empties. another well composed picture and well thought out ie empty hand and bottle nice and sharp image sorry Andy just didn't do anything for me.

Below Jim Empty stand love the composition and the emptyness it portrayed well done.

My vote went to Empty blue bottles love the simplicity of the image the colour and the compositiion well done sie.

Jinky again you do keep coming up with some simple yet very effective shots , love the colours and DOP

Chris my eyes could not focus o your image it had a bit of mystery where the focus was. Nice to see your entry look forward to your next.

OGGALILLY another well planned shot I thought it was going to be up there with the leaders.
And also I oppoligise for not responding to your critiqe and request on my water photo I LOVE MY EOS.
well the truth of the matter was I was about to call it a day on the water theme until I got my quaterly EOS magazine and this technique was featured. I put the card and the eos logo underneath a cd plastic cover, why plastic? beacause it keeps the water droplets round better than glass. I suspended the cd cover high enough on two empty glasses to see most of the underneath in one droplet I then focusted on the image in the droplet from above with a tripod. Hope this makes sense ! and yes I should have been more observant regarding the border, I am so sloppy.

That may also have been my problem...

Well done on the win Semaj, lovely shot of the derelict bandstand and arena. Nice shot from a good angle and leading lines all around! Conjures up a wonderful image of what it must have been like in its heyday, but also quite a sadness that it will probably never be used porperly again. Got my vote.
Others who nearly got my vote were jinky, oggalily, chris-p, ianpinion and reggy. (ianpinion - if you hadn't got that shadow across your hand you would have got my vote)

Top & "Bottom":-

Reggy - Needs a little modernisation
Nice feeling of emptiness and neglect here! Good detail in the large picture which you have linked to (if only more people did the same!) and a great glow of the sunlight through the rafters and on the chimney.

Mannananscloak - Empty Ramsey Harbour
Unfortunately from your shot the harbour looks quite full to me! Nice fluttering flag capture and colour popping works really well. I can't help but think if you'd panned to the right a bit and caught the flag against the mudflats and remaining water it would have given it a more empty feel.

Thanks everyone who voted for mine and your kind words in the reviews. It was a home-made light tent from a clothes maiden, a blanket and two pieces of white card - you can see the reflection of the maiden in the bottles! It was lit from the top right with one of my EX150 lights (I think i should have balanced it up with two - what do you think?). I ended up using quite a long exposure and setting the flash off manually about 10 times to get the exposure I wanted. A RAW conversion, a bit of a levels tweak in PSE, clone out some dust spots, resize and Bob's your uncle!

Cheers, Sie
