Totally agree, but we know by now that all pictures will be seen by those who select/judge. With the sheer amount of entries, it is just one way of selecting which photos to have a look at. You soon find out which ones are voted for by 'non bonafide mass voters,' and you can skip those.
In the past, the 'block votes' were often just votes; a lot of people did not bother to leave a comment. I am therefore happy there is now also a 'most commented' category. I have always preferred comments to votes, but as we can vote, it is only reasonable to expect to be able to see the score.

This subject comes up every year, usually somewhat later in the competition, when (sometimes all) pictures of certain entrants shoot straight to the top. We're early this year!
Don't let it put you off, most of us see through this ruse.

Have a nice weekend!

From past experience voting plays no part in the scheme of things, it just keeps the interest in the competition going.
With supposedly 100,000 entries it would be impossible to run a voting scheme. It would appear there are two levels, selection and judging. The selection process is carried out by DCM staff with a (relatively) short list presented to the final judges for the awards.

So don't be in awe of the list of eminent judges, one of which is a competent club judge, you are firstly in the hands of those that deem what is good or not at a different level. So vote to your heart's content it won't make one iota of difference to the outcome.

You also need to bear in mind this competition, like most magazine endeavours, is a marketing excercise. However it brings a lot of pleasure and excitement to many 100's of people so it must be commended for that. Good luck!

Hi Lisa,

I may have the wrong impression, but I think that writing in a comment acts as a vote, and the most commented section will automatically update in the same way as the previous voting system did ; ie. Most Commented = (previous) Readers Choice

Although, hAVING THE crypTIC typing to stop spamming slows and discourages the process

Hi lisa82, to vote click on the thumb and it will register that you like it - at present it won't show you the total number of votes however.

beauxreflets - the spambot box is no longer there, on any of the site ;-)

Hi everyone,

Just a thought - are you trying to vote via the PhotoRadar page or the POTY page?

At the moment you can only vote via the POTY page by clicking on the thumbs up icon underneath the image.

Hope this solves the problem -

Amy

I must admit. it took me a while to realise the thumbs up icon was there Its kinda lost amongst everything else....the old way of voting (last year) was simpler....a big button with "VOTE" on it plus a small "show your appreciation" text box, which you could scroll through to view any comments
