Question EOS 7D RAW and Elements 7

Apologies if I have missed a previous thread regarding my problem.
I have recently purchased the Canon EOS 7D and Photoshop Elements 7 does not seem to want to open RAW pictures taken by it.
I have successfully opened the files if I re- format them to tif (as long as it is less than 16 bit ) but surely this is missing the whole point of shooting in RAW to start with ?
Yes I do have the Canon software to process RAW but having bought Elements 7 last year ( when 7 was the latest edition still ) it would be nice to use it as it would appear to be able to do more editing than Canons DPP program.

It sounds very much as though your Camera Raw plug-in is not up to date. Assuming you are using a PC then follow this folder path: Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Format. Inside the File Format folder you will see a plug-in called Camera Raw. Right click on it, choose properties and look to see which version it is. If it's anything lower than version 5.6 then use this link http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=4626 and replace the existing Camera Raw file (.8bi) with the new one.
