Another fine win Michael and I must say thoroughly deserved. I just love the composition and the sharpness of the capture, which I have to say gave it a real 'wow' factor.

I liked Mark's shot too, again great compostion and use of DoF for a shot that really stood out. I liked Ogga's shot of the cappuccino too and Salty's shot of the tree but I had to question how well they fitted in with the mundane theme. I guess it's all down to individual interpretation, which is great because it means the entries are all unique and we don't end up with a dozen shots of the same subject matter shot from different angles.

Firstly, well done Mike, what an emphatic and deserved win.

Secondly apologies for the late return.

Above – jinky – Egg 'n soldiers for breakfast.
The idea is good with two buts from my point of view. The first one is that I can't stand eggs, so this was never going to appeal to me The second is that the black background seems rather harsh to me. I guess I see breakfast as a rather softer experience.

Below: ogga – latte. Super image, excellent composition and could be from an advertisement. It was my second choice behind Mike's washing up.

Entering grumpy old sod mode here, if there is one thing that really drives me nuts it's pretentious coffee. The last time I was in the yUK, admittedly some two years ago now, I happened into a café in a small market town and asked for a black coffee. Ten minutes later I was still thirsty and no nearer getting a simple brew of arabica. Eventually I discovered that 'just' coffee is now called 'American coffee'. Good grief. No wonder the English drink so much beer.

Incorrect, it's called an "Americano" and if you want a large one it's a "Venti Americano".

Anyway my up and downs:

HinFrance - Say Cheese... - brilliant work. there are so many things to like about this, the composition, texture, lighting, sharpness - but I think my favourite is how the scuffs switch from being white marks on a dark background to the other way around halfway across the frame.

terrik - gum leaves - great work and very much what I was hoping to acheive in the theme - observing stuff you wouldn't normally taking a second look at and photographing them in an interesting way. The lighting is nice as it catches the side of the barbed wire and the composition is good with a dymanic angle on the main subject. Only minor crits are that the bit of spider web is a little distracting and I would have preferred the bokeh* a little "creamier". Good work and nicely seen.

* posh word for "out of focus bit" - after "americano" I just can't help myself!
