new lens

Hi there,

i currently own a ND300 using a 18-200mm lens. I was toying with the idea of upgrading the body to a D700, but after reading several reviews, i don't think I need it. So, i've opted instead to invest in a new lens, and need some help.

We are expecting our first child in October, and have a dog and two cats, so I already take a lot of portrait pictures using my 18-200 - however, i'd like to purchase a dedicated lens for the sole purpose. Can anyone recommend which is the best lens for my needs / kit.

50 mm prime

Have a look at your existing images and try and work out what focal length you often use and get a fast prime at that approximate focal length.

My opinion is that 85mm is a good FL for portraits, especially babies and children as it is more flattering.

85mm prime or 50mm prime are both good option and not to expensive but give great IQ
