Adobe help

Im using adobe photoshop 7 and i also have Elements, im trying to create a Black and white landscape photo that includes a coloured sky, i tried using the NEW SKY technique that came on the recent PHOTOPLUS MAG, but im having problems when i import a new layer, it tells me its of a dif colour range, and when i manage to get it layered its in black and white also, any tips ?

I don't know about the method used in that mag, but there's probably quite a few different ways to do this, a quick one is to make a selection around the area to be black and white, select 'create new fill or adjustment layer' from the layers palette, select the black and white option and adjust as required.

Personally, I would create a duplicate layer first and convert it to black and white, using a layer mask. Then erase the sky from the duplicate layer and merge or flatten the two layers.

I have not read it but the problem is you are proberbly using the convert to greyscale command to get your background image to B&W which is grey gamma2.2. and is not compatable with rgb which your coloured sky import is.

You need to convert your background image using convert to B&W or any method other than greyscale which will keep the image in RGB.
