Chat Thread: W/end Comp. 19-21 Feb 2010 - A Matter of Scale and Perspective.

A Matter of Scale and Perspective - The world as seen through the eyes of a mouse.

Being anthropoids as well as photographers, our view of the world is more often than not seen from an upright position. We learn to estimate the size and distance of objects from this elevated level. However, how would the world appear in terms of scale and perspective when viewed from a low level - through the eyes of a mouse say? By way of illustration, imagine yourself standing in a field that had recently been harvested. The stubble at your feet would appear small when compared to the distant trees which would be viewable in their entirety given an unobstructed view of the horizon. From the perspective of a mouse however, that same stubble would appear to be a jungle of impenetrable mass with possibly only a view of the distant tree tops.

The theme for this weekend's competition therefore, is to capture a scene or object(s) using your imaginative, camera, compositional and possibly editing skills to convincingly demonstrate both scale and perspective as you believe a mouse would see it. Easy eh? Thinking caps on !!

Rules for the competition can be found HERE and the Entries thread HERE

I'm trying to work out how to think like a mouse. My brain seems to be small enough today that I should be able to!

All you've got to do for a mouse eye view is get the cat to open its mouth.

Yeah, OK, a bit tricky to catch . .

This idea is provided with my compliments as I shall be absent for a couple of weekend having fun, I hope, in the snow.

Yes had that thought in my mind already H. If only our cat didn`t have such a deformed set of teeth
The other one was just to do something hopelessly out of focus as they are quite poorly sighted and rely on sense of smell

Would a trained cat be OK?

What with the troubles with the WPOTY and the trained fox perhaps I'll find something else to try!

Well I'm used to crawling around on the floor for my dog shots, the knees are quite used to it

Good choice, Forseti !

You're not the only one Chris LOL. It may be of interest to you to know that the idea for this weeks theme came whilst out taking my last weeks entry. Standing literally knee deep in snow and at one stage falling unceremoniously onto my bum, I was confronted by a small mouse hurrying out from behind a nearby head stone. As he sat there momentarily between furrows of deep snow, and with me on by bum, I recall thinking to myself that surrounded by wall to wall snow as the little darling was it must seem like the Siberian tundra to him......and so the seeds of an idea was born. I was actually hoping for a win (as we must all do) so that I could lay this situation before other members and see what ideas they could come up with when presented with a low down view of the world offering an entirely different scale and perspective. Now you'd think that having set the theme that I'd at least have an idea myself. Well actually no I haven't - maybe I should revisit the graveyard and ask the mouse what he thinks.
