wide angle lens?

Hi
Im new to photography and own a D90. I wanted to buy a wide angle lens for it. As I wanted to take landscape photographs. But after looking online I'm confused and unsure. I dont want to spend alot as I'm a student so from £500 +.
I was looking at Nikons But am really not sure.
Any suggestions please, would be helpful

For your budget, either of the Sigma 10-20mm lenses will do you:

The comparable focal length Nikon will cost a little over £600

Or the not quite so wide 12-24 is at £700+

Very happy sigma 10 to 20 user here .

Many say go for the slower lens as for the price the faster one is not significantly better.

With what you pay for the Sigma you could even get a reasonable tripod which will reaqlly help out in your landscape shots.

I'll second the above - the Sigma is very good and I'd go for the cheaper one too....

Sigma 10-20 is a cracking lens. Like said above. Good price too so you can't really go wrong with this lens.

Yup, buy the Sigma. I've got one on my D90 and it's lovely. I got mine second hand for under £200 so it's worth hunting around.

Really helpful advice here, thanks. I've been looking for a wide angle too so will definitely look around to see if I can get a Sigma cheaper. I would be interested to hear how Sigma users find this lens in terms of weight? I would like to avoid a lens that feels heavy when round the neck, for obvious reasons, and was trying to compare my kit lens 18-55 with a 10-20 Sigma. Any advice about this greatly received.

Lesley

The Sigma 10-20 is more than twice the weight of the Canon 18-55 (almost 2.5x heavier). But it's a lot better, and if you carry on your shoulder rather than around your neck you'll be a lot more comfortable (same with either lens).

Do you know, I had never thought of that! Durrgh! And it seems obvious now... thanks for this! Simple but effective! Any suggestions on a good strap?

I just use the ones that come with the cameras, but I've got a couple of friends who are happy with Optech straps.
