Canon Announcement Monday

An Announcement from Canon is expected on Monday, the possible launch of a 60D, and a couple of new cameras (SD1200 & SD780), possibly also a new 100 series camera to be called the T2i.

There are no rumours about new lenses, but a new wide angle would be very welcome!

Hi Mark
If the IS is of use then it's a really good lens, but the problem is that IS is not very effective when using it at macro distances. The non IS 100mm is just as good optically and will save you around £350, if you choose to spend this money on a MT24 - EX macro flash you would have a much more effective macro kit than just the 100mm IS L.

Macro flash is a revelation, once you've used it you'll wonder how you ever did without it, images which were impossible to capture suddenly become frozen in sharp focus when you can set the shutter speed to 1/250th sec. You can set the aperture you want, and know that you will get perfect exposure with every shot.

I'd avoid the temptation to buy the MT- 14EX ring flash as you are not able to angle the flash heads or change the output on each head individually. If you do decide to buy the MP-e 65mm 1 - 5x macro lens you will appreciate the way that the flash doesn't get in the way and you can angle the head for optimal illumination.

People are selling the flash brand new on Ebay for around £500, someone has a lightly used one here I think I'd make a best offer of around £475 see how that goes.

Well I am waiting for Canon to produce what may be the EOS 5 mk111 and kind of hope for the same spec as the EOS 7 with full frame, It just has to come at some point .
My savings are burning a hole in my pocket but I must be patient.
Anyone in the market for new kit take a look at camera price buster it is updated daily with the cheapest price

Canon have announced that they are going to speed up the product cycle of the 5D series, probably by around 6 months. The MkII was announced September 2008 and with a 3 year cycle should be replaced September 2011, however this now looks to be brought forward to March 2011.

The main reason for the change is the lack of control on the video side, and the poor autofocus system which is an antiquated unit resurected from the original 5D, it should get the same one as the 7D at least.

Interestingly the Fred Miranda user reviews of the 100mm macro IS L seem to be a mixed bag - most seem to say its a worthwhile upgrade to the non IS version, but not all by any means.

Also gets a lower overall score of 9.4 compared to 9.6 - but that seems to be a price issue, rather than anything else.
