Chat Thread Golden Oldie 22nd - 24th January 2010

Hi everyone,
First of all thanks for all of your votes.
This weekend I have set the theme as OLD you can take a picture of anything old, from a rusty nail to a vintage moped. Then I had a great idea to add a bit of a twist, in that you can choose something new as well and then make it look old either through sepia toning or textures, your choice. I think that should get your little grey cells working overtime.
As we say in my profession try to think out of the box to get that wow factor.

Good luck everyone, I think this theme will give a wide and diverse range of photographs (cant wait to see them).

Usual rules apply:
Any amount of processing, all elements of the shot must be taken between Friday 22th and midnight Sunday 24th January 2010.

Well, a few ideas spring to mind. Nice challenge idea, figuring in a wow factor will be the hard bit!

I have the perfect image in mind i think,
but the adding of wow factor is where I'm gonna struggle --
Great idea though I'm sure those who can use paint shop programs etc will have a field day..

Hey Daylegh remember icicles at dawn and dew on moss in the water comp ? for me they had the wow factor without photoshop programs, so remember its a photo competition and looking at your last entry you will be close to the mark.

Hi Dayleigh,

I do not have a package with any auto Sepia conversion so I will be adjusting colour manually with a few real Sepia prints / repro's from my collection serving as a guide to tonal values. And possibly as an idea, try to imiitate old plate, rather than trying to emulate film with subjective grain effects (not sure yet as I need to get the picture first).

I will also probably start by using the B&W setting in the camera; as well as taking full colour shots - That's if I can seek out a suitable WoW that I think will work well in mono tone etc...

Well it`s rain forecast all weekend here and lots of things to do so an early entry from me this week. It`s my effort at an old distressed print of an old grocer`s shop - which I took yesterday in Kirkstall bbey Mueum Leeds which has some great old streets. Nice opportunity to test out new photography rules in our museums following a lot of challenges by Leeds Flickr group. Now allowed to take shots there without flash so a high ISO needed in those old Victorian Streets but adds to the distressed look.

Quick off the mark there jinky! I'm in exam-marking hell at the moment, but will put my mind to the challenge later.
