hi Cutter I was talking to a lad in aphoto shop on such a topic an he sujested useing 100mm lense. in the "Digital SLR" magizine they show a seriese of photos taken with a 50 mm shot at diferent speeds which all look good to me, starting at f/1.8 then f/3.2, f/5.6,f/8 and finishing at f/22 so I guess it play around with yer kit & see which shots look best at the end?

Like it. The second would look a little better with a catchlight. But that's nitpicking.

Hi Mark, great shots. I like number 2 the best. I'm not sure about the catchlight. People tend to go overboard on it but a subtle one might be OK.

Number 3 feels a little cramped because you've cut the top off the models head but I like the way the dress on the shoulder mirrors the same sort of shape as the hair.

I love the overall shape in number 4. The models body gives a lovely 'S' shaped curve and her arms seem to help define her shape. I'd like to see more of her right eye (the left side as we look). I'm not sure how it would work as you might find your eye drawn more to the face rather than down the model (or at least that's whats happening to my eyes!)

Really nice shots, I agree with Chris P but will add the the last one is spoilt a bit (for me) by the uneven background colour it seems to gone a light brown colour towards the bottom (photoshop fix).

What lighting setup did you go for in the end as I am about to try shooting for the first time with my background and 2 interfit flash setup.

Yes wavemachine, I agree the backround is bad at the botttom because I flashed the backround half way up with half power , if I had pointed lower down on full power it would have been ok. I wasn't too bothhered cos I really only wanted head shots.

Anyway the only lighting I used was a flash with umbrella to light the model just above head height, and one aimed at the backround to wash it out.
, be sure to protect your model from any side light, or you might get burn out on the shoulders,
hope this helps.
