Dayleigh - ntltp - I found this fitted the saying exactly - no time and the present were portrayed very well - got my vote.

Del - sitw - couldn't figure it out at first as I couldn't see the spanner, certainly well hidden maybe the photo is a little too cluttered ?

All in all some fine photographs and a fun topic.

I hope I'll be able to join in next weekend, I'm in Zurich but I'll have the laptop with me - just hope it works, sometimes it doesn't really want to .......

Some good shots and a tough job this week with Carol's cat coming high on my list.

Unfortunately, I was not quite convinced enough to vote for the lightning strike. While the bell tower shot is really superb, there are three small points that caught my eye. Firstly, the lack in expected contact spark action at the point of contact. Secondly, the almost flat area in light banding across the top of the photo (along with the bolts widths) appears to render both bolts into the same plain, flattening the depth in dimension of the sky (though this effect is lessened when the band area is scrolled from view). And finally, the small area of light seen through the tower's vents, appears to me, to be a bit out of key with the depth of sky beyond. With this said, congratulations Mark, well done; I'm looking forward to the next challenge.

Two Heads Are Better Than One, another amusing shot Paul. Nicely done, though the patch of light on the (your) inner left cheek, and the lack of detail on the neck below catches the eye.

To my choice this week, Howard's, Full of Beans. A simple, humour us shot, spot on the brief, with the use of light directing the eye to the fullness of the jar.

I was not trying to pull your work to pieces Mark. With the bolts appearing more seperate in depth of view, a whisp of contact sparks, and the light bit toned to suit the sky I probably would have cast my vote your way. Great light and contrast by the way, I'd like to see the tower shot before the change in sky.

Above: Sarahsocke - I loved this and it got my vote. Not only is it a great image, but it encapsulated the whole proverb. very clever.
Below: Angii - I thought the 'stitch' part was excellent, but would have liked to have seen an overlay or inset of something to do with 'saves nine' to complete the saying.

Ctiriques - both quite small pictures this week, too small really to comment on technical aspects.

First, congratulations on a pretty emphatic victory. I think that what attracted so many votes may have been the brightness of the tower and fake lightning against the dark (we now know CGI) clouds. That and the fact that it does exactly what it says on the tin. The composition and idea are super. Not that you needed my vote, but I rarely vote for small images as it is simply not possible to judge them other than for basic composition. For example, even at this small size there appears to be evidence of a noticeable halo around the roof of the building.

Below: beauxreflets – Lock Stock and Barrel. Thanks for the vote. I wasn't going to pay out for Heinz beans (you know how expensive they are here) so I made some with tomato sauce, tabasco and haricots blancs. Tasted OK for my lunch afterwards (©jinky), but you can't beat Heinz. Well, Andy, looks like the title, although I come over all Shakespearean there for a moment. What a wonderful old firearm – I do hope you have a licence. Looks technically top work, but lacked the vibrancy (for want of a better word) to get my vote this week. . .

. . . which went to Carol's moggy. Despite being a pretty noisy picture the range of tones makes it a more interesting thing to look at; that and the fact that our cat looks quite a lot like this and is frequently given to what it thinks is playful biting and scratching his pet humans in between bouts of chewing the heads off of mice and sundry small birds.

Looks like anything to do with rain will be a suitable subject this weekend.

Thank you for your comments, and in reflection I agree re vibrancy being lacking in depicting the saying. Technically not a firearm BTW Though not Heinz some SuperU stores have Brit shelves with Baked beans that are not too expensive and sometimes we find them in Lidl as well.
