Well, many thanks Paul for building and placing the Poll thread. I have spent all day buying new cable and conduit, and then installing a 48 metre run! Hard wiring done, and when the weather warms up I have a 35 metre trench to dig so the cable is buried along the side of the drive.

It is good to see all the entries - and its going to be very hard to choose just one.

Paul/Amy - would it be a good idea to distil your instructions into one 'easy to read' thread and post it somewhere prominent with a big sticky? Or could it be incorporated into the instructions for the weekly comp? Like others, I just couldn't work out how to post a clickable picture and once again, uploaded from Flickr.

Hi everyone,

This PhotoRadar FAQ (link can be found at the bottom of the homepage) hopefully explains how to insert an image for quick reference. Let me know if you think we should include more pictures/details and I'll amend it as necessary.

Best wishes,

Amy

You might say "he would say that" being in the lead at the moment but I think you are being unfair on people. One thing about transparent voting is that everyone can see who voted for who and it is unliikely that people would do as you suggest. I voted for someone new to the weekend comp scene as you can see and again if people followed encouragement by some they would do as others are and do a quick critique of the entrant above and below their onw entry and say why they voted for who they did. It`s clear to me different people have different tastes in judging a photo and vote according to their ownthoughts on image quality and how they meet the brief. Maybe I am naive but I belive the transparent poll means voting is open and has cut out the chance of people voting for themselves or indeed regularly voting for a friend. Then again I am not sure who are friends on here. In DC Mag days a freind of mine participated briefly but I knew no matter how good my image I would never get his vote as we are so competitive with each other on photography - and so it transpired until he got bored with the site and some of the voting issues that went on then.

Hi iRebel,

I think that there are some excellent shots this week, yours included; however, my vote went to Paul / jinky, as in my opinion (and that of two others in my family) his photo had a little extra visual punch to it (WoW factor, in that I have not seen a similar shot to this in a long long time)

Do not be put off, the choice was very hard; with your crown, the dew, watering cans, rose hip, the wall of ice and iced oak leaves, coming very high in my memory list.

Having balanced on a high ladder to get a lucky shot of simultanous drips falling from thawing icicles in dim light conditions, I am dissapointed not to get a single vote.

None of these are my friends Seriously though, in the couple of years that I've been voting on this and its previous version, I have generally agreed with how the top 3 has come out. Remember, what you're asking people to choose is which is the best out of all of them, and sometimes it can be a hard decision. We did experiment for a couple of weeks with a 1,2,3 system (not suggesting we try this!!) which gave people a chance to give credit to more than 1 photo, but it was not as straightforward as a poll to manage. I remember picking up one or 2 2nd and 3rd place votes from people in what would otherwise have been a 0 vote week which was certainly encouraging. Oh, and I too have voted for a newbee this week.

Great entries this week. I have not entered for a while, but always put a vote in.
My vote went to Jinky this week as I felt it met the brief, and had great visual impact.

Thanks to ronbpix for the vote on my image this week.

Just reading through the thread I hope we are not going to start bickering about who votes for who . I think that we all have different takes and views on images and vote accordingly. It is just that sometimes there is one particular image that stands out and meets the brief, thus gains lots of votes.

Having won the weekend comp a couple of times, I think that if I knew friends had voted for my image simply because they were my friend, I would certainly expect them to help out with the admin of setting up the threads and polls as this is no easy task and can take time to complete.

Anyway enough negativity, lets all enjoy improving our photography techniques and pushing ourselves to try new ideas.

Guy
