Canon 70 - 200mm f/2.8 IS L MkII

Well true to the rumours Canon have launched the lens today, further predictions for a 24 - 70mm f/2.8 IS L and a new 50mm f/1.4 have yet to be announced. The 14 - 24mm f/2.8 is another eagerly awaited lens possibly to be announced on February 9th.

Any idea what improvements can be expected over the existing 50mm f/1.4 as I shall be looking to buy this lens sometime in March? I actually need a fast 50mm for an indoor shoot at the end of April and the existing 50mm f/1.4 always appears to get glowing reports.

It's a very old design so expect that the optics will be improved, the old micro USM motor which is not a ring type has proven unreliable, it is now the only lens which uses this so it will almost certainly be a true USM ring type. Sigma's version is a better lens if you get a good copy so it's about time this lens met its demise.

Oooh a new 50 1.4 would be interesting; I have the Sigma 50 1.4 for a while, but it really wasn't that great a copy so I returned it.

The 14-24 could be amazing, but I suspect I'd have to sell my eyes, therefore, making it rather useless in order to pay for it!
