hi from alan
can anyone recomend some were i can get my data recovered, i had all my pictures backed up on
a seperate hard drive ,which decided to start and smoke ,i took all my photos from the pc and no longer have them
i found one place on the internet but starting price was £400
sorry if this post is in the wrong place

iv'e never seen a hard drive smoke it's usually the heads that crash making the drive unreadable
a method that might work if you don't want to go the expensive recovery method is to buy another harddrive exactly the same as the one thats packed in and swap the circuit board or get someone to swap them for you if you don't feel confident enough and see if the drive will burst back into life

there's a good chance of this working because it sounds like thte fault is electrical rather than physical so the platters and heads with a little luck should be ok
