Smile Captured Memories

I'll be sharing some landscape/seascapes and infrared images that I have taken during my visit to different places. I'll be updating this thread from time to time as soon as I have images that are worth sharing.

NAIDI HILLS. It is an old Sitio derived from the Ivatan word called “Na” which means past and “Idi” meaning settlement or community. Site of the American period wireless telegraph facilities that connected Batanes with central government until its collapse from a Japanese Imperial Army bomb attack at the start of World War II. It is also here where the first lighthouse of Batanes was built.
The structure is a 6-storey building; the viewing deck at the 5th floor; Ivatan house (near the main structure) of vernacular architecture is about to be through.

Aside from serving as lighthouse, it can be a tourist's attraction. The viewing deck is a perfect location where one views the whole of Batan Island from end to end , one can also have a dear view of Sabtang Island in the south of Basco and Itbayat in the north.

Tataya (an Ivatan dory, a smaller boat usually with twin oars), the faluwa, (Ivatan boat, usually motorized as is pretty common with most boats in Batanes now and can accommodate 20-40 people and in some instances cattle and livestock.

FUNDACION PACITA BATANES NATURE LODGE

Nestled atop rolling hills.

This Batanes resort was once the home studio of internationally-acclaimed artist Pacita Abad. It was lovingly refurbished by her brother, former DepEd Secretary Butch Abad, who envisioned the nature lodge to provide peaceful accommodations amid a lush garden. Every room was designed to resemble a gallery, with the walls adorned by masterpieces of both well-known and up-and-coming artists.

Shot taken around 11 am. Aside from the lighthouse this is the only landmark that is visible at night.

SUNSET IN VAYANG. This is heaven on earth. Spectacular view of the South China Sea and the Western part of Basco. Can see Itbayat and other islet north of Batan. One the most beautiful spots in Basco.

This was our second to the last sunset during our stay in Batanes. I was running downhill when I accidentally step on a slippery part of the grass that caused me bruises on my knees. Literally , I was chasing the light during this time since I came from the opposite side of this place which is facing Mt. Iraya.

Mt. Iraya is located on Batan Island, one of the Batanes Islands, in the province of Batanes. A 1008-meter dormant volcano that last erupted some 400 years ago, Mt. Iraya is an important landmark that is stepped in legend. Adventurous types will enjoy the heavily forested and steep trail leading towards Mt. Iraya. The forest is filled with plants and wildlife, giving everyone opportunities to take a lot of Batanes pictures for their photo albums back home.

ISLAND OF BATAN

I was really amazed on how the clouds move so fast in Batanes. A kind of thing that I haven't seen here in UAE.

Imnajbu is the smallest of the four political subdivisions that comprise the municipality of Uyugan. It's also one of the smallest barangays in all of Batanes and the Philippines. Bounded by Mahatao to the north, Itbud to the southwest, and the Philippine Sea/Pacific Ocean to the east, Imnajbu is no more than 10 nautical kilometres from Basco, the provincial capital, across the aquatic-rich Bays of Madi in Mahatao and Valugan in Basco.

Much of Imnajbu is rugged country. A range of rocky hills stretches from Itbud to the south and Mahatao to the north. This mountain range cuts the territory or barangay/district in half. West of this range are the low-lying hills, and to the east are the foothills and rugged coastlines.

Nestled in the foothills is the village settlement or the "Borough of Imnajbu" as Imnajbians call it. In the language of the Imnajbian Ivatans, "Imnajbu" means the resettlement to the lowland or downhill, and it goes back to Spanish colonization.

Imnajbu has a population of 100+ (not including the cows). It's seven kilometres from the town proper of Uyugan and twenty-five kilometres from Basco through the coastal highway.

My last sunset for the year 2009. This place is so memorable to me , since this is the location of my first seascape shoot way back 2008.

Shot taken in Jumeirah open beach.
