Samsung OR Canon?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a digital camera. I have looked through a number of cameras and looked at their reviews and narrowed my thought down to a Samsung ST500.
Never bought a Samsung camera before so not sure wether they are reliable or wether the photos are off a good quality so should I consider a Canon instead?
In the Canon range I have looked at the Canon IXUS 100IS which again is a 12mp camera.

Which would be a better choice the Samsung ST500 or the Canon IXUS 100IS?

Take a look at the Canon SX120 IS which is a 10x zoom and 10MP for a similar price. It's a much more serious camera than the Samsung, if that's what you're looking for.
