Suggestions, criticism and advice welcome

Hi guys,

I am new to this.....Photoradar that is, not photography. I am wanting some constructive advice on my portfolio...eg....areas of improvement..tips, etc......the reason being I get loads of compliments from friends and family and from customers when I sell my prints at craft fairs...but I'd want like minded enthuiasts to cast their eye over my work. The main reason I have entered the Digi Mags poty2009 comp and the 2008 one and never seem to get anywhere...what makes a photo stand out from the crowd?

LUCK - I think with most competitions it is down to a certain amount of personal bias upon which images are prefered

Thanks guys....I suppose if you are in with 100,000+ entries a bit of luck is needed...but I guess it is going after that shot which has all the elements of exposure and subject, etc, that makes it stand out.....I am already on the hunt for the "perfect" shots for next years comp.. mind you I dont think there is such a thing as the perfect shot because we all have different styles, tastes.. and we are our own worst critics, well I know I am. , but its fun to try and I guess thats the essence that makes me so passionate about photography.....
